The program prepares multi-skilled professionals to assist physicians in the office, clinic, or in a variety of other medical settings. Medical assistants have the knowledge necessary to help the physician with patient care examinations and treatments, and to handle the administrative needs unique to a health care office.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Medical Assistant Technology is currently one of the fastest growing occupations in the United States. In recent years, the many changes in the health care delivery system have resulted in a wide variety of "other clan hospital" options for individuals seeking medical services and treatment which have opened opportunities for Medical Assistants.
Upon completion of the Program, the graduate will receive an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Medical Assistant Technology and may also become a Certified Medical Assistant by successfully completing the National Certification Board Examination administered by the American Association of Medical Assistants - AAMA (www.aama-ntl.org).

The Sinclair Community College Medical Assistant Technology Associate Degree Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs - C.A.A.H.E.P (www.caahep.org) on recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).

Review Course Offering:
Effective January 2014, Meaningful Use Core Measures requires that certain medical orders entered into the CPOE be done by a licensed healthcare professional or a credentialed medical assistant.
Beginning with the B-term of Spring 2013 semester, (starting March 11, 2013), the medical assisting department will offer a review class for members of the community who are medical assistants but do not have a medical assistant credential. For more information, please click here.
