The Appalachian Outreach department provides Sinclair Community College, local urban Appalachian communities and the Miami Valley region with educational programs and outreach services that ensure broad access to quality educational and community-building resources.

Appalachian Outreach strives to:

• promote awareness of Appalachian culture and issues throughout Sinclair and the Miami Valley
• increase post-secondary scholarship and success in the local Appalachian community through programs, services and skills training

Think College
The Think College program encourages students to attend college by providing career guidance, admissions and financial aid couseling and enrollment information to local Appalachian communities.

Appalachian Outreach Advisory Board
The Appalachian Outreach Advisory Board, a gathering of Sinclair faculty and staff along with local community leaders and citizens, works to ensure the availability of educational opportunities for local Appalchian communities.

Appalachian Unsung Hero Award
This award recognizes individuals who have helped build Appalachian community pride but have gone unrewarded in spite of their exceptional efforts. Nominees for this award must meet federal Appalachian guidelines or must have demonstrated outstanding service within the Appalachian community.

Appalachian Studies Program

Sinclair's Appalachian Studies program, the first of its kind in Ohio, focuses on expanding awareness of rural and urban cultures in the Appalachian regions of the United States.
