The 13th ranked Sinclair (1-0) Women’s Volleyball team started off the season with an exciting victory over 25th ranked Vincennes (4-1). Vincennes came out with an early 19-9 lead in the first set, and even though Sinclair battled back, they fell short the first losing 25-20. Losing that set sparked something in Sinclair who then battled for every point and won the next three sets and won the match in four sets. The last three sets Sinclair won with scores of 25-20, 25-21, 25-21.
Over four sets, the Tartans had 49 assists and 18 kills. Marie Rank had five blocks over four sets and Carly Butler produced 21 digs. Returning All-American Jessica Thobe had 19 digs over four sets.
Head coach K.C. Gan was pleased with the win. He said they were hurrying in the first set which may have been why they struggled. “If we settle down, play like we do in practice and play our game, we will have success,” Coach Gan said. This was Sinclair’s first victory against Vincennes.
Sinclair starts off the season 1-0 and will compete in the Owens Invitational over Labor Day weekend. They return to home court on September 4 when they face off against conference foe Edison Community College at 6:00 PM at Sinclair Community College in Building 8.
