Intimate Apparel Auditions Rescheduled

Sinclair Theatre's open auditions for Intimate Apparel will be held on Saturday, December 1 from 12 to 2 p.m. in Building 2 on the downtown Dayton campus. Hurricane Sandy caused havoc on the east coast and created delays and schedule changes for Sinclair’s guest director from New York City, Monica L. Williams, requiring that Dayton auditions be rescheduled.

All actors with time slots on the original November 26 date will be reassigned via telephone call from the production's stage manager. For additional information, call 937-512-2076.

Intimate Apparel, by Lynn Nottage, has performance dates: February 7–10, 2013. The play is a portrait of an African-American woman living in Lower Manhattan in 1905 striving to become an independent woman as a seamstress and will be performed as part of celebrating Black History Month.

A diverse cast is required. OPEN AUDITIONS means that performers do not have to be theatre majors or Sinclair students. All actors prepared with requirements below are welcome to audition. Character breakdown as follows (actors do not have to be the correct age, just able to portray it):

  • Esther—35, African-American
  • Mrs. Dickson—50, African-American
  • Mrs. Van Buren—30s, white American
  • Mr. Marks—30s, Romanian Jewish immigrant
  • Mayme—30s, African-American
  • George—30s, Barbadian immigrant

Audition requirements include preparing a one-minute contemporary and one-minute classical monologue. Callbacks for Intimate Apparel will be held the same day from 3 to 5 p.m. Actors will read from sides and engage in ensemble work.

Audition times are still available by calling 937-512-2076 or e-mail at patti.celek@sinclair.edu.
