Be Prepared to Communicate with the World… Learn a New Language

The modern language degree programs at Sinclair focus on French, German and Spanish. However, the department offers a variety of language courses. No matter what you choose to study, modern language fluency is a tool valuable to you as an individual and job seeker. Our programs helps you to foster the valuable skill of critical thinking.

This program might be for you if:

  • You want to learn the world’s most commonly used foreign languages—Spanish, German, and French.
  • You would like to gain an edge in the culturally diverse job market.
  • You appreciate learning about other countries and cultures.
  • You enjoy communication and would like to improve your communication repertoire.

By learning to speak Spanish, German, and French, you can better appreciate the creativity of music, poetry, drama and narrative of a culture. These programs, in addition to being able to articulate your own ideas and communicate them effectively, also help you to better relate to others. Humans use language to structure their beliefs, ideas, opinions, and cultural experiences. To understand another language is to gain insight into another culture, another way of perceiving the world. It is also to understand one's own language better and to gain a critical reflection on one’s own culture, through the lens of another.

Most collegiate programs in liberal arts areas require at least one year of foreign language study. To fulfill this requirement and more, our programs provide valuable credit and experience that will transfer easily to most four-year colleges and universities. Our courses can also be used to fulfill humanities requirements of Sinclair’s associate degree programs. With the variety of classes offered, you have the opportunity to study Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish.
