Physical therapy is a health care service which uses a variety of methods to help patients in need of care and rehabilitation. At Sinclair Community College, the physical therapist assistant program prepares you to provide physical therapy interventions to appropriately address the needs of patients as determined by a physical therapist.

Our program is composed of two components, academic materials and clinical affiliation. The academic focus of the program is conducted on campus and includes classroom and laboratory practice to gain skill competencies prior to working in a clinical setting. The clinical component gives you the opportunity to work a schedule simulating current employment standards. This experience is invaluable to your future as a physical therapist assistant—providing you with diverse learning experiences, hands-on experiences, and a professional mentor in the field.

Physical therapist assistants (PTA), under the supervision of physical therapists, assist patients in a wide variety of therapeutic and rehabilitative procedures. Many PTAs go on to work in hopitals, rehabitation centers, out-patient clinics, nursings homes and home health.
Important Information about Life and Health Sciences Programs: The Life and Health Sciences (LHS) Programs consist of open enrollment (general education and division specific courses) and program specific courses with limited enrollment. The open enrollment courses may be taken prior to entry into the limited enrollment courses. Physical Therapist Assistant - Associate of Applied Science
Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA), under the direction and supervision of a Physical Therapist (PT), implement treatment interventions, collect data related to the intervention and progress the treatment plan established by the PT in order to meet the goals of the patient/client.
The Physical Therapist Assistant program is designed to be completed in four (4) semesters on a full-time basis when the student begins the technical portion of the program. The degree program consists of open enrollment courses (general education and division specific) and program specific courses with limited enrollment. The open enrollment courses may be taken prior to entry into the limited enrollment courses. The PTA program adheres to a competitive selection process for entry to the limited enrollment courses. To qualify for entry to limited enrollment courses, please see the Applicant Information packet located on the webpage. Students must complete all of the prerequisites and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 for entry into the limited enrollment courses. A grade of C or higher is required in all program courses, and the PTA courses must be taken in sequence.

Ohio Transfer Module
The Associate of Arts and the Associate of Science degree programs fulfill the requirements for the Ohio Transfer Module at other public colleges and universities. Students in applied associate degree programs may complete some individual transfer module courses within their degree program or continue beyond their program to complete the entire transfer module.
