Agriculture

Agriculture is the cultivation of land and breeding of animals and plants to provide food, fiber, medicinal plants and other products to sustain and enhance life. Individuals seeking an agricultural degree or certificate can to tailor their education toward a specific area of interest within agricultural studies. The major areas of concentration are: Animal Production, Agronomy, Agribusiness, Large Animal Science, Precision Agriculture, and Agricultural Equipment Operator.

Agricultural is paramount to sustaining life on earth. The number one career field in the Miami Valley region looking to employee individuals is agriculture. The average American farmer is in their 50’s, and the demand for younger farmers and sustainable agriculture is growing every year.

Sinclair is offering agricultural technology courses to meet the increasing demands of agriculture and fresh produce. Our programs teaches students the necessary skills they need to succeed in the industry. Programs include courses from technical and specific areas as well as the general education base related to agriculture to fulfill the educational need for agricultural experts within the Miami Valley.

Associate of Applied Science
The Agricultural Sciences Program offers competency in specialized skill areas such as Unmanned Aerial System Precision Agriculture, Alternate and Renewable Energy Sources, and Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response. Graduates of an Agricultural Sciences Program will contribute to filling the current and growing need within the state of Ohio for educated Agricultural personnel. External certificates that will be offered to students within the curriculum include; OSHA Basic Safety in the Workplace, OSHA, Agricultural Safety, HAZWOPER, Pork Quality Assurance, Beef Quality Assurance, ServSafe, +/- Bovine Artificial Insemination. This degree program contains one or more embedded certificates which will be automatically awarded when the certificate requirements are completed. The Horticulture Technician degree uses courses from existing technical certificates as well as a general education base to fulfill an educational need for horticultural studies within the Miami Valley. View Full Program Details
One-year Technical Certificate
Agribusiness Greenhouse Management Go to Program Details Display Program Description
The Agribusiness Greenhouse Management certificate will prepare students for a successful business career in industries related to the food and agricultural system including input markets, farm production, greenhouse management, food manufacturing and distribution, and food and plant retailing. This program provides a broad-based study of the successful production of food, plants, and other agricultural products and will help students develop the skills for decision making and an understanding of the agricultural-food system dynamics. The certificate will prepare students for employment in various areas of agriculture. Completers of this certificate will gain additional expertise in areas including agronomy, large animal science, agricultural economics, retail and customer service. View Full Program Details
Urban and Community Agriculture Go to Program Details Display Program Description
The Urban and Community Agriculture Certificate will equip students with basic knowledge of plant science that is used for the growth, development, and utilization of cultivated plants. This knowledge will allow the students to propagate plants, implement sustainable landscape design, understand the science of soil, and will ultimately enable the student to operate and manage a greenhouse. Short-term Technical Certificate
The agribusiness short-term certificate will introduce students to the agriculture industry and prepare them for entry into the agriculture workforce. Graduates of this certificate will be skilled in the foundations of business, agriculture, agricultural economics and agronomy. View Full Program Details
