Dayton, OH – The (4)Sinclair Baseball team (41-9, 22-2) continues to dominate conference play winning 14 consecutive OCCAC contest on their way to being ranked 4th in the NJCAA Division II Baseball Poll.
Sinclair traveled to Cuyahoga this past weekend having already clinched the OCCAC title and looking to continue a winning streak that would reach 17 consecutive games by the end of the weekend.
Game one the Pride took an early lead as Quentin Urban (SO/Millard South H.S. – Omaha, NE) homered in the top of the 2nd to give Sinclair a 2 run jump on the home team. After Cuyahoga bounced back with a run of their own on the bottom of the 2nd and a 4 run third inning to take the lead, Sinclair hit the home team with a 6 run sixth inning that included a 2 run homer from Andrew Holderman (FR/Eaton H.S.) to put the game away. Patrick Boyle (SO/Valley View H.S.) threw another complete game to earn his 9th win of the season.
The second game of the Friday doubleheader was more of a pitchers dual as Carlos Pena (SO/Columbus West H.S.) only gave up one run with 8 strikeouts as he also notched his complete game for the 4-1 victory. Top of the fourth, Taylor Huebner (SO/Piqua H.S.) blasted a 2 run homer to right field that gave the Pride the lead and was all the runs Carlos would need to close out the game.
The Pride came out ready to play Saturday as they scored early and late to blast Cuyahoga 11-4 in the first game of the doubleheader. Collecting 3 runs in the first two innings and pounding out 5 in the fifth was all the runs Starting Pitcher Mitchell Asman (FR/Elder H.S.) would need as he went 6.2 innings in route to his 4 win.
With another four game weekend sweep at hand, the Pride finished off the home team and the conference season with an impressive 10-2 victory. Eric Hansman (FR/Vandalia Butler H.S.) drove in Titus Montgomery (SO/Springfield H.S.) on a sac fly in the top of the first to get the Pride on the board. Jimmy White (FR/Elder H.S.) doubled in the top of the second to score Mark Carpenter (SO/Stivers H.S.) and build a 2 run lead. Cuyahoga would come back in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 2-2, but the Cuyahoga run was short lived. Eric Hansman doubled to center field to once again score Montgomery in the top of the 5th as the Pride would drive in three runs in the 5th and one the 6th before exploding for 4 in top of the 7th to cap off a 10-2 final win. Patrick McGuff collected 8 strikeouts in 5 innings to earn his 5th win of the season.
Sinclair will finish regular season play this coming Friday as they will play a doubleheader at Kellogg CC in Michigan.
