Following an extensive nationwide search, Sinclair Community College has selected a new Provost. Dr. Anthony “Tony” Ponder, currently serving at Sinclair as Dean of the Science, Mathematics & Engineering Division, has been named the new Provost of Sinclair Community College starting February 1, 2022.
“Dr. Ponder’s extensive academic and administrative leadership experience and his commitment to identifying and executing innovative solutions to providing high quality, accessible learning opportunities for students makes him the ideal candidate to continue our tradition of academic excellence,” said Dr. Steve Johnson, President – Sinclair Community College. “The Provost position is one of the most critical leadership roles at Sinclair and we are thrilled to have Dr. Ponder leading our academic and college credit endeavors.”
Sinclair’s Provost has full responsibility for leading the instruction of student learning to support the mission of the College, strategic planning in the implementation of state-of-the-art technology in the classrooms, and the day-to-day operations of Sinclair’s academic divisions including Business and Public Services, Health Sciences, Liberal Arts, Communication and Social Sciences, and Science, Mathematics, and Engineering. Dr. Ponder will also oversee other student education and academic support operations.
Dr. Ponder joined Sinclair Community College in 1991 as an instructor in the Mathematics Department. He earned tenure in 1996 and was promoted to the rank of Professor in 2005. In 2007, Dr. Ponder was appointed to the position of the Mathematics Department Chairperson and since August 2012, he has served as Dean of the Division of Science, Mathematics & Engineering.

Dr. Ponder holds a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University, a master’s degree from Wright State University, and a Doctorate in Community College Leadership from Ferris State University.
