The Sinclair Community College Office of Work-Based Learning celebrated In-Demand Jobs Week (May 2-6, 2022) by providing special tours of campus labs and facilities and holding an Apprenticeship Breakfast Briefing to introduce community partners and employers to workforce solutions.
Ohio’s In-Demand Jobs Week is the statewide celebration of the jobs, industries, and skills that are in-demand in Ohio. In-demand jobs are those that pay a sustainable wage and offer a promising future based on the projected number of openings and growth. Ohio has in-demand jobs in more than 200 occupations across a wide range of industries.
On Monday, May 2, community partners from the Hope Center for Families toured the many facilities of Sinclair’s downtown Dayton campus where students learn critical skills to prepare them for rewarding careers in automotive, aviation, biotechnology, construction, health sciences, HVAC, robotics, and more.
Sinclair is partnering with the Hope Center for Families to provide classes in allied health fields where students can earn certificates and begin careers in nursing, STNA, and Nursing Assistant.
On Thursday, May 5, 2022, Sinclair’s Office of Work-Based Learning held an Apprenticeship Breakfast Briefing to introduce Dayton region employers to Sinclair’s Registered Apprenticeship Program. Partner employers currently participating in the apprenticeship program spoke about how they utilized apprentices to create new pathways of recruitment into their workforce.
Sinclair Community College’s Apprenticeship Program officially launched in the 2018. Sinclair is one of only 10 Ohio community colleges to be awarded a U.S. Department of Labor grant, via ApprenticeOhio, affording the opportunity to offer an apprenticeship program managed by a community college.
Sinclair Community College currently has 65 active apprentices in 10 programs approved by ApprenticeOhio:
“As employers throughout the State of Ohio continue to struggle to find skilled workers, Sinclair College is staying true to its mission to find the need and endeavor to meet it by providing workforce solutions for businesses by connecting them with students who are receiving exceptional training for in-demand jobs,” said Chad Bridgman, Director – Sinclair College Office of Work-Based Learning. “Apprenticeships can be a game-changer for employers. Sinclair’s Office of Work-Based Learning provides tailored plans for employers that combine on-the-job training, provided by the employer that hires the apprentice, with job-related instruction provided by Sinclair.”
Sinclair’s Office of Work-Based Learning also held information sessions about the IT Apprenticeship Program during In-Demand Jobs Week. Sinclair is partnering with the Montgomery County Employment Opportunity Center on Dayton’s west side to offer courses and training in the growing field of Information Technology. Sinclair’s IT Apprenticeship Program allows employers to recruit, retain, and grow their workforce.
