DAYTON, OH – Sinclair College was recently awarded $15,000 in grant funding by the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) to support fifteen former foster youth who are interested in pursuing a short-term certificate In Nurse Aid Training. The program is designed to take less than one year and will provide students the opportunities and skills needed for a successful career-pathway.
“What makes Sinclair unique is that we serve a community of students with diverse needs,” said Dr. Steve Johnson, President of Sinclair Community College. “It is our responsibility to ensure that every student has equal access to education and the opportunity to meet their full potential. There is already so much that we do to support students that have self-identified as formerly in foster care. This additional funding will allow us to bolster our existing efforts and we are extremely grateful to the Ohio Department of Higher Education for awarding us with this grant money.”
The funding from this grant will support Sinclair’s existing Skills to Work initiative that aims at providing tuition support for students pursuing in-demand short-term certificate programs. Many of these short-term certificate programs are embedded within Associate Degree programs that allow students the opportunity to work while pursuing further education. Sinclair students have the option of choosing from a wide range of short-term certificate programs, including Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant, Network Engineering and Computer Aiden Manufacturing.
