Sinclair Community College has been named “Business Partner of the Year” by Lakota Local Schools for its work to empower students through computer science education. This partnership centers on Sinclair's College Credit Plus (CCP) program, which has provided Lakota high school students with access to high-quality Computer Information Systems (CIS) courses for the past three years. More than 150 Lakota students have benefitted from this program, gaining a head start on their college education and valuable skills in computer science and information technology.
The award was presented at the Lakota Cyber Showcase on May 2, 2024, at Lakota East High School in Liberty Township. The showcase is presented by the Lakota Cyber Academy that offers students a head start on a successful career path in cybersecurity.
“Sinclair Community College is honored to receive this recognition exemplifying our commitment to working with our partner schools to ensure high school students are prepared with the skills and education they need for career success,” said Liz Cicchetti, Chief School Partnerships Officer – Sinclair Community College. “We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Lakota Local Schools and helping more students make progress toward their future college and career success."
Beyond coursework, Sinclair's partnership with Lakota Local Schools extends to providing unique learning experiences. Dr. Mike Libassi, a Sinclair faculty member, has engaged students with his innovative Sticker Heist game, a hands-on approach to understanding cybersecurity concepts. Additionally, Sinclair collaborates with Lakota Local Schools administration on various events and involves students in the Ohio Information Security Conference held at Sinclair.
CCP is Ohio’s dual-enrollment program giving students in grades 7-12 the opportunity to take college courses for free and earn high school and college credit before graduating high school. Sinclair has CCP agreements with 153 individual high schools across the region including Lakota Local Schools.
