Sinclair Community College to Suspend In-Person Classes Until Further Notice
All Course Sections to Move to Online or Distance Learning Modalities
DAYTON, OH – Sinclair Community College announced today that it has significantly modified its operations in order to minimize the impact to health and safety from the Coronavirus or COVID-19.
The college will cease offering traditional face-to-face classes starting at the end of Tuesday, March 10, 2020. The college is calling a special break for students from all classes (both traditional and online) starting Wednesday, March 11, 2020 with classes resuming on Monday, March 23, 2020. From that point on, all classes would operate as online or remote at that point. The college will continue these measures until further notice and all in-person instruction, at all locations, is discontinued until further notice.
Dr. Steve Johnson, President of Sinclair College, said, “Governor DeWine’s announcement today reflects the measures necessary to prevent this illness from spreading and is consistent with what the college has learned from other public health experts. It is our responsibility to provide for the safety and security of our students while also working to make sure they retain the ability to move forward with their education. We will be back in touch with all students in the coming days to answer their questions and to provide them with the assistance and resources they need.”
College faculty and staff will use the time between now and when courses resume to transition students to online or distance learning modalities. The college will work to make sure students are impacted as little as possible in terms of their time to complete a degree or certificate.
Dan Sadlier, Sinclair Board Chair, said, “The Sinclair Community College Board of Trustees met today to consider these and other measures. These science-based recommendations offered by Governor DeWine and his medical advisers are wise and prudent. Sinclair Community College will always work in accordance with that which is best for public health.”
At this time, the college does not have any confirmed cases of COVID-19 affecting any student, faculty or staff. We will continue to monitor and follow the guidance of public health authorities. During the time in-person classes are suspended, the college will implement measures to clean and disinfect all classroom and public areas at the Dayton campus and satellite locations.
