Dayton, OH – After Sinclair's thrilling win over Owens last weekend they continued a three game win streak this week. The Sinclair softball team (19-12, 4-6) hosted the University of Northwestern Ohio JV (UNOH) on Wednesday April 23 and picked up two run-rule victories. Sinclair then traveled to Miami Hamilton for the third time this season where they have struggled against the Harriers. Sinclair struggled offensively for the first four innings but eventually got the bats going and defeated Miami Hamilton 9-2
In game one against UNOH Sinclair came out very strong offensively with four players hitting triples Alex Hendrix (CF/Fresh. – Beavercreek H.S., Beavercreek, OH), Madison Monnin (1B/Fresh. – Versailles H.S., Versailles, OH), Kelly Wood (RF/Fresh. – Northmont H.S., Clayton, OH), and Sierra Stewart (3B/Soph. – Bellbrook H.S., Bellbrook, OH). Sinclair is 3rd in the nation in triples with a total of 23 for the season. Monnin and Brooke Peters (SS/Soph. – Union County H.S., Liberty, IN) both went 2-for-2 at the plate. Monnin had four RBI's and Peters had two RBI's and they each had one run. Kaila Sturgell (P/Fresh. – Liberty Center H.S., Liberty Center, OH) pitched 5.0 innings and got the win for Sinclair with two strikeouts. Sinclair defeated UNOH in five innings in game one, 13-3.
Sinclair kept the bats going in game two defeating UNOH 12-2 in five innings. Madison Monnin and Brooke Peters had another solid hitting performance in game two. Monnin hit a three-run homer, her 6th homerun of the season. Peters was 1-for-1 with a double, two RBI's and two stolen bases and a sacrifice. Miranda Roberts (P/Fresh. – Tecumseh H.S., New Carlisle, OH) was on the mound for Sinclair getting the win, pitching 5.0 innings with four strikeouts.
Sinclair traveled to Miami-Hamilton for the third time this season splitting with them the first two meetings winning 8-0 the first meeting and losing 4-3 the second meeting. Sinclair did not score any runs until the fifth inning, but held MUH to two runs in those five innings. Madison Monnin had another strong day at the plate going 3-for-4 including a double and adding two RBI's. Sierra Stewart went 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI and scoring two runs. Katie Sturgis (LF/Fresh. – Middletown Madison, Middletown, OH) had a stellar day at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI's and scoring a run. Kaila Sturgell got the win for Sinclair pitching 5.0 innings with five strikeouts.
Sinclair will be on the road Saturday, April 26 when they finish up conference play at Lakeland. Sinclair finishes up the season with two doubleheader home games on May 1 when they host OSU-Newark at 3:30PM and 5:30PM and then May 5 when they host Ancilla College at 1:30PM and 3:30PM. Sinclair plays all of their home games in Xenia, OH at the Athletes in Action complex.
