Dayton, OH – The Sinclair Community College Board of Trustees announced May 13, 2014 that they are approving $1.1 million in funding to support the launch of a new Sinclair Corporate College at Austin Landing in Southern Montgomery County. The new Corporate College would focus on the needs of major employers in the Information Technology, Data Analytics, and Cyber-Security fields and is targeted for opening in November of 2014.
"The Sinclair Corporate College is the extension and rebranding of much of the work that we do in the non-credit Workforce Development division and is a sign of our continued commitment to economic development in the Dayton Region," Sinclair President Steve Johnson said. "This location will serve the workforce training needs of the major high-tech employers in the region with the goal of being their strategic training partner."
The Corporate College will be housed in a leased space in Austin Landing and the Sinclair investment will be paid back over a period of 10 years. The new location will be home to flexible classroom space and a Cyber-Physical Lab that will connect through autonomous technology to the Automotive Technology program and the forthcoming National UAS Training and Education Center, both of which are housed on Sinclair's Dayton Campus.
"This is truly significant. Sinclair's decision is a service to our entire community," Montgomery County Commissioner Dan Foley said. "Our major IT employers are more likely to stay here because our area will have the trained workers these employers need to continue succeeding."
The Board also approved $13.5 million in capital budget spending for FY2015. Approximately half of this total is in state funding, including $4 million in funding to renovate existing space to create the National UAS Training and Education Center. The remaining funds will go to projects to make sure the campus maintains its high-quality and safe learning environment for students.
One of the oldest and best known community colleges in the nation, Sinclair is a board member of the prestigious League for Innovation in the Community College. The college serves nearly 40,000 unduplicated students each year, making Sinclair the third largest community college in Ohio and one of the largest colleges of any kind in Southwest Ohio. Sinclair offers over 170 accredited degree and certificate programs and has awarded more degree and certificates than any other community college in the State of Ohio over the last five years. National leaders such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation partner with Sinclair on critical projects such as the Completion by Design initiative which seeks to eliminate barriers to student completion.
