The Global Scholars Program is part of Sinclair’s new Global Initiatives project – still very new, and still in the development process. For fall semester 2012, a number of courses have been designated as part of the Program (see link at left). Students taking these courses may be eligible to become Sinclair Global Scholars, with recognition upon completion of the requirements and/or graduation or transfer. A greater intercultural knowledge and experience of the wider world is an obvious necessity for employment in most fields in the twenty-first century, and will better position our students who plan to pursue advanced degrees.
The Global Scholars Program will offer a multidisciplinary approach to understanding and building on the interconnectedness of today’s world. It will equip our graduates and transfer students with the knowledge and analytical skills to comprehend the political, social, historical, scientific, linguistic, economic and cultural aspects of a global society. Tomorrow’s leaders in virtually all fields will need these skills. In fact, many of today's leaders already need them!
Global Scholars will take a minimum of five courses (earning an A or B) in at least two of three groups of courses: Sciences, Languages, and Global Culture. They will also demonstrate minimum proficiency in one or more languages other than English; and complete a service-learning project and a (free, online) US Institute of Peace certification (see link at left for the USIP).
