Design

What is Design?

Design is everywhere - it's what drew you to the last piece of furniture you bought, and it's what made online banking possible. It's made London taxi cabs easier to get in and out of, and it made Stella McCartney's name. It's driving whole business cultures and making sure environments from hospitals to airports are easier to navigate.

The single word "design" encompasses an awful lot. Design work is creative, fast-paced and in demand by most businesses. Sinclair College has three design areas of study within its department - Interior Design, Digital Media Design (Video Production or Web pathway) and Visual Communications (also known as Graphic Arts).

This area of study might be for you if:

  • You enjoy communicating with, and listening to, others;
  • Creativity flows through you;
  • You're a master mutitasker; requiring adaptability & flexibility;
  • You have attention to detail, integrity and dependability;
  • You look at space and imagine ways to make it not only look good, but more efficient

Why major in Design?

The goal of Sinclair’s design programs are to provide state-of-the-art instruction aimed at helping you develop real-world job skills. With a projected 4-7% growth in design jobs over the next 10 years within the Dayton region, there are many career opportunities for you to explore like: graphic/web/interactive designer, prepress operator, exhibit designer, package designer, advertising/marketing, print publication, television graphics, environmental designer, residential or commercial designer, kitchen and bath design, color consultant and professional organizer.

For those students interested in furthering their education, we have articulation agreements with Art Academy of Cincinnati (Graphic Design), Columbus College of Art & Design (Advertising & Graphic Design or Interior Design), Franklin University (Interactive Media Design) and WSU-Lake Campus (Graphic Design or Multimedia Design).
