Young Scholars began in 1991 as a Saturday morning academic readiness program for under-represented, first-generation students in Montgomery County, Ohio. Twenty-six years later, the program has evolved into a college and career readiness program and continues to target those students with the greatest need.
Young Scholars currently meets throughout the academic year on Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. In addition, students are given the opportunity to participate in various community and cultural events.
Eligible applicants are 8th grade students, residing in and attending school in Montgomery, County Ohio. Applicants are first-generation college students; parents or guardians of eligible students have NOT earned an Associate or higher level degree.
Applications are accepted and reviewed during the spring of a student’s 8th grade year. Students must complete his/her 8th grade year with a 2.5 GPA or above and will be notified of their acceptance by June 30.
Saturday sessions take place on the downtown Dayton, Ohio campus of Sinclair Community College. The Young Scholars Office is located in Building 6, Room 6122.
