Mentoring Collaborative

The Mentoring Collaborative of Montgomery County (MCMC) serves to network all agencies providing mentoring services for youth and to train and certify both the agencies and individual mentors within our partner agencies.

Mentoring is a critical element to a child’s social, emotional and cognitive development. It builds a sense of industry and competency, boosts academic performance and broadens horizons. Without a doubt, young people who have the benefit of caring adult mentors navigate the path to adulthood more successfully.

The Mentoring Collaborative of Montgomery County’s vision and mission has remained consistent since the onset – to coordinate and support youth mentoring programs in Montgomery County through training, resource development and recruitment so that every youth who needs a mentor will have one.  MCMC developed a strategic plan resulting in the mentoring resource center with the following new emphasis:

  • Training of partner agencies, mentors and mentees
  • Continued Background checks
  • Enhanced technical support
  • Continued Marketing of “Mentoring” brand
  • Continued Mentor Recruitment Support Plan for partner agencies

Over the last fifteen years, MCMC has made tremendous strides in shaping the “mentoring” landscape within Montgomery County. The impact and results of these efforts can be seen through the following initiatives:

  • Certification Training of MCMC Partner Agency staff on Elements of Effective Practice™
  • Improve Match Safety through Background Screenings and Safety-related trainings
  • Increase organizational capacity through trainings, consultations and technical support
