Program Expectations

Once enrolled in the program, there will be a mandatory class orientation prior to Fall classes. At the orientation, you will meet classmates, and have the opportunity to speak with graduating seniors as well as students finishing their first year of class.

All coursework must be passed with a C to remain in the program. The grading scale of 93% A, 84% B and 77% C develops academic success leading to passage of the state and national licensing examination. Upon completion of the curriculum, the student is eligible to receive the Associates of Applied Science (AAS) degree.

The assessment of the student is done using a variety of methods including traditional tests, oral examinations, skill competencies, group and individual presentations, patient simulations with typical PT case scenarios and demonstration of professional behaviors.

Participation in classes also requires computer literacy, availability of additional time for study, group work and access to SCC computers to complete assessments and review course material. Work should be limited to part-time with a flexible schedule. Most classes run during the daytime hours, but there are occasional evening classes. The students are given as much advanced notice as possible to assist with scheduling work and family obligations.

Our graduates have successfully developed a plan to assure family support, time for study alone and with groups and a willingness to develop skills and behaviors required of a Physical Therapist Assistant. This is a rewarding profession requiring dedication to learning from the first day of class.
