English as a Second Language

The objective of this program is to provide quality instruction and advisor support to ensure access and retention of limited English proficient students. Advising, testing, placement, and tutorial assistance are provided through Educational Support Services. In cooperation with Developmental Studies, two sections of English as a Second Language (ESL) and one section of ESL Reading are offered quarterly, with additional sections as the enrollment warrants. Sinclair also supports, through Reading Education for Adults in Dayton (Project READ), and the Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) literacy program offered on campus year round. Most of the students at this site are non-native speakers. The coordinator of the Limited English Proficiency Program consults with community agencies, faculty, and staff to meet the instructional and cultural needs of non-native students. Sinclair also collaborates with other community providers of English as a Second Language instruction.
