Courseview Hosts Successful Diversity Event

About two hundred students, faculty and community members attended Courseview Campus Center’s diversity event, “The Muslims I Know: Myths, Movements, and the Media” on Thursday, October 28th at Mason Middle School Auditorium in Mason. The workshop provided students, faculty, staff and community residents the opportunity to explore the many facets of America’s third largest practiced religion/culture, that of the Islam/Muslims. The 2008 documentary The Muslims I Know was shown and Pakistani-American producer/director Mara Ahmed was on hand for a question and answer session after. The diversity event was funded by a grant awarded from Sinclair's Diversity Committee.

Prior to the event, a faculty workshop, was held on "Dealing with Religious Differences in the Classroom." Interfaith Campus Minister Rev. Dr. Barbara Battin facilitated a discussion on how faculty can help to create the atmosphere of respect that is necessary to productively handle religious differences that may arise in classroom interaction. Approximately twenty faculty attended the workshop.
