On Saturday, May 1, the Sinclair Pride defeated their rivals, Owens Express, in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Championship game, with a final score of 9-1. This is the second year that Sinclair and Owens have met in the finals.
Sinclair’s pitching was outstanding in the final game; Jeremiah Kerns pitched five strong innings before turning the ball to fellow freshmen Austin Pressly, who shut the door. Offensively, Zach Stewart led the Tartans this weekend going 5-10 (in the three games) with three homeruns and knocking in nine runs. Stewart is now the school’s all-time leader in RBIs with 67.
With their recent wins, the Pride will be the top seed in the south in this year’s NJCAA Region 12 Tournament in Battle Creek, Michigan (May 14–). The final bracket will be set next Monday after the Michigan conference finishes the regular season. This is Sinclair’s fourth straight trip to the regional tournament.
For the 2010 season Sinclair is now 42-8 and ranked sixth in the nation.
