Dayton, OH- Sinclair Community College will offer several Appalachian Studies courses, including a course focused on Native American History, during Winter Quarter 2009 which begins on January 5. All courses will be held on the downtown campus, and all are three credit hour courses.

Native American History (HIS 297) will be offered on Tuesdays from 2-4:45 p.m. While this course is an overview of many tribes throughout the Americas, tribes in the Ohio and Appalachian region will be highlighted.

Appalachian Families (SOC 118) will be offered on Mondays from 6-8:45 p.m. This course examines the historical, sociological, and cultural lives of not only mountain families, but also those families who left the rural region for the metropolitan cities and have come to be identified as urban Appalachians.

Appalachian History and Culture (HUM 141) will be held on Wednesdays from 2-4:45 p.m. The course is an overview of the many facets of life in the Appalachian region of the United States including its history, culture, economics, politics, education, and religion.
