Sinclair Men’s Basketball team (15-2) hosted Clark State (4-9) in their first home game of 2014. Sinclair came off a convincing road win on Saturday where they beat Wright State—Lake Campus 102-81. Sinclair’s fast-paced play seemed to be too much for Clark State, and Sinclair had a dominant win 86-62. Sinclair will now start conference play on Saturday when they take on Lakeland Community College. Clark State took the initial 2-0 lead before Sinclair scored five unanswered points and took the lead 5-2. Conner Myslowski started the Sinclair run then he scored five quick points putting Sinclair up 10-5 with 15 minutes to play. Ramar Hairston jumped into the action off the bench as he hit a three midway through the first half and put Sinclair up 20-11. Trace Cureton drove down the lane and got the lay up to give Sinclair a 27-11 to finish a 7-0 run. Sinclair went into halftime shooting 50% from the field and 44% from the three-point line and a 40-21 advantage.
Sinclair’s leading scorer, Trace Cureton, struck first for Sinclair as he got the first five points for Sinclair in the second half. From that point on, Sinclair didn’t look back. Deiontay Walters hit a shot and added to Sinclair’s lead 49-24. Both Charles Sweatt-Washington and PJ Weaver started playing above the rim as they followed back to back dunks which put Sinclair up 73-45 with under 7:00 to play. Sinclair defeated Clark State 86-62. Sinclair shot 55.0% on the night and 86.7% from the free throw line.
Scoring leaders for Sinclair included Trace Cureton (6-4/SO – Cathedral H.S., Indianapolis, IN) who tallied 20 points and 5 rebounds. Marquez Carpenter-Mathis (6-6/FR – Western Hills H.S., Cincinnati, OH) added 17 points and 4 rebounds and led the team with 5 assists. PJ Weaver (6-5/SO – Meadowdale H.S., Dayton, OH), who made his debut tonight for Sinclair, registered 15 points and 4 rebounds. Conner Myslowski (6-4/FR – West Carrollton H.S., West Carrollton, OH) added 11 points and 5 rebounds, and Westley Parr (6-7/FR – Benedictine H.S., Cleveland, OH) finished with 7 points and 5 rebounds.
All home games are held at Sinclair Community College in building 8.
