8th Inning Comeback Lifts Pride

Dayton, OH – Sinclair (3-0/0-0) Baseball had to rally in the 8th to defeat the Urbana JV Blue Knights 5-4.

The Pride got on the board first with a two out double off the bat of DH Danny Lawrence that scored Kyle Vander Ark to get the scoring started. The following inning the Pride scored again with a two out double from Left Fielder Paul Wilson to extend the lead to 2-0. On the mound, Sophomore Corey Johnson was in total control as he did not allow a hit and struck out seven in 4 innings of work before giving way to the bullpen.

Down 3-1 heading into the top of the 8th, Urbana had to put together some type of rally to put some pressure on the strong Sinclair pitching staff. Urbana did just that as they connected on four straight hits against the Sinclair Reliever Brock Trimbur to take a lead 4-3. Brock Trimbur had been throwing well as he relieved Johnson in the 5th, but in his four inning of work he ran into major problems and allowed 3 earned runs in the 8th to give up the lead.

In the bottom half of the 8th, Mike Maddle reached base on an infield error and Darwin Argumedo came off the bench to lay down a successful sacrifice bunt to advance Maddle to second. Right Fielder Nick McGill drew a walk that brought Austin Downing to the plate with two on and one out. As Downing continued to battle at the plate with a 1 ball 2 strike count, Coach Dintaman put on the double steal and the Blue Knight catcher threw the ball into the outfield allowing Maddle to score the tying run. After the Downing strikeout, 3rd Baseman Drew Williams would pick up the game winning hit as he doubled to left field with two outs to give the Pride a 5-4 lead going into the top of the 9th.

Freshmen TJ Teets would shut down the Knights in the 9th to earn his 1st save of the year.

Final Score: Sinclair 5 Urbana JV 4

Offensive Leaders: Danny Lawrence 3-3 2B RBI, Drew Williams 1-2 RS 2B 2 RBI's.
