Sinclair (1-0/0-0) Women’s Basketball takes season opener against the University of Rio Grande JV (0-4/0-0) 91-61.
Dayton, OH – Sinclair Women’s Basketball team hosted the University of Rio Grande’s JV team this afternoon in the opening game of the regular season.
On the heels of hot shooting and solid rebounding, Rio jump out to a 31 – 10 lead on the home team. Down 21 with 10 minutes left in the first half, Sinclair put on an amazing run of 29 point to only 2 for the visitors to take the lead at the halftime break 39 – 33. The run continued well into the second half as Sinclair pushed the lead out the final margin of 30. After only scoring 10 points in the first 10 minutes, Sinclair out scored Rio 81 – 31 over the last 30 minutes to seal the Tartan Pride’s first win of the 2009-10.
Opening afternoon saw all 11 Sinclair players see time with 9 in double figure in minutes played. The Lady Pride had 3 freshmen lead the way in scoring, Emily Frey (6-0/Versailles H.S.) 18 points, Jessica Plummer (5-8/Tippecanoe H.S.) 17 points and Shelby Pettit (5-9/Brookville H.S.) with 14 points. Last year’s NJCAA Nations Leader in Assist, Sophomore Jana Gross (5-4/Bellbrook H.S.) paced everyone with a game high of 6 assist.
The Sinclair Women’s team will return to action at home on Monday the 9th of November (5:30pm) for non-conference match up with Cedarville University JV.
