CIS 1107 Introduction to Operating Systems

In this class, you will learn the foundation of introduction to operating systems, virtualization and basic networking concepts. You will learn how to manage and administer current desktop operating systems (Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X). In addition, you will explore operating systems for mobile devices (Apple IOS, Google Android) and will be introduced to widespread applications for IoT and Cloud concepts. This class will also cover personal and enterprise cybersecurity principles to help protect yourself from common cyber-attacks.

Outcomes

  • Identify, define and manage various operating systems (IOS, Android, Windows Phone) for mobile devices and applications for those devices.
  • Execute commands in a command line interface. Present and implement commands in a batch file using appropriate command line syntax.
  • Explore and configure an operating system's graphic user interface.
  • Identify, define, and implement various operating system management tools. Manage files, folders, and basic access permissions. Manage security tools and firewall options.
