This is an accelerated developmental writing course, paired with English Composition I, emphasizing the writing process, including invention, drafting, revision, and editing. Students collaborate to write more effective essays, showing evidence of analysis, critical thinking, and cohesion of thought. Students also work closely with online resources, as they work towards fluency in style and mechanics.

Outcomes

  • Understand and use a recursive writing process, including peer involvement, using situation-appropriate writing strategies to produce successful drafts, leading to stronger essays as a result of this collaborative learning.
  • Understand and use electronic environments to support writing tasks while engaging students in the writing process by responding to discussion forums, blog writing, and completing an individualized computerized learning plan that is exclusive to the student’s individual needs.
  • Analyze through reading and writing social, institutional, and cultural issues relevant to students' experience; as a result of this exploration, students more effectively understand the relationship between writer, text, and audience in various genres, while gaining a clearer sense of their voice through classroom interaction.
