Outcomes

  • Students will formulate ideas about music's role in memory and intercultural transmission. Students will evaluate how individual and group identities are expressed through music. Students will identify examples of global interdependence of groups and individuals through music.
  • Students will distinguish specific musical characteristics from among many cultures.
  • Students will articulate ways in which music's meaning differs from place to place and among various cultures. Students will compare and contrast the ways in which different cultures organize sound into music. Students will describe historical-social elements of western and non-western musics.
