Summative skills performance to include initiating prescribed respiratory care treatments, managing life-support activities, evaluating patient responses to such therapy and modifying therapy, performing diagnostic studies, rehabilitation, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, providing education for in-patient and home care environment, performing mechanical ventilation on adults, pediatrics and neonates and completing a communication skills assessment. Seven practicum hours per week.

Outcomes

  • Enhance clinical skills by performing adult, pediatric and neonatal mechanical ventilation within the critical care environment.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the following aspects of oral communication skills and interpersonal relationships: verbal, nonverbal, listening, conflict, gender, and diversity
  • Demonstrate proficient clinical skills by performing prescribed adult, pediatric and neonatal respiratory care procedures to include life support activities.
  • Perform prescribed diagnostic studies on the adult, pediatric and neonatal patient and evaluate results obtained.
  • Initiate and conduct prescribed cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, hyperbaric oxygen, home-care therapy and provide patient, family, and community education.
