Jessie Thatcher is one of three students awarded The President's Club Scholarship for 2013 and expects to graduate in June with an associate degree in Individualized Study. "I'm on a fixed income and don't qualify for financial aid." She's planning to join her daughter in earning a bachelor's degree as well and uses scholarships to help make that dream come true.
"My daughter is also pursuing her degree with Sinclair, and our goal is to walk in graduation together with our full gold honors regalia, as the first in our family to graduate with college degrees."
While working at the Sinclair Bookstore, Jessie has a 3.5 GPA and is involved with the Honors Program and Phi Theta Kappa. "I served as the Public Relations Chair of Phi Theta Kappa," for 2011-2012 at Sinclair, "and now I serve as President of the Ohio Region Phi Theta Kappa Society this year." Jessie leads the regional officer team, comprised of students from across Ohio, helps coordinate regional events, and is liaison to chapter officers and members throughout the state.
"Inspired by Sinclair's involvement with Completion by Design, I've worked on their C4 Commit to Complete Campaign and led the Nu Pi Survey Committee that collected more than 1,000 student surveys."
In addition to her work on campus, Jessie has also volunteered with the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Relay for Life Englewood as the Survivor Chair, and also the March of Dimes.
"I'm dedicated to fulfilling my dream," and with the help of The Presidents Club Scholarship and its donors, "I'm doing it at Sinclair."
