Academic Resource Center (ARC)

The ARC will be closed to Sinclair ARC services on Thursday, October 25. GED students will continue to meet in the lab, but the ARC facilitator will not be available to enroll or assist students with ARC services on this date. Regular hours will resume October 29.

Do you need to refresh your math or writing skills for the placement test?

The following resources are available online via the ARC and are geared to help you prepare.

  • ESL / Listening: The ARC provides an ESL Reading and Writing Skills curriculum through the PLATO software. In the Reading curriculum, students study a variety of reading strategies and apply techniques to improve vocabulary skills.
  • TEAS: The ARC provides a TEAS curriculum through the PLATO software. This curriculum provides testing and remediation in the four subject areas covered by the TEAS exam (English, Reading, Science and Math). PLATO also includes a timing feature which helps students manage the timed element of the exam.
  • WritePlacer: The ARC provides writing skills development through the PLATO software and through assistance online from an ARC facilitator. Upon completion of the curriculum and the essay remediation, students receive a voucher from the ARC facilitator to cover the Write Placer retake fee (value $15).
  • ALEKS Math: ALEKS Prep and Learning modules are designed specifically for students based on their initial ALEKS math assessment. To save time, it is recommended that you take the Sinclair ALEKS assessment first, and then use the Prep and Learning Modules specifically designed for your math needs. Additional assistance with math concepts can also be provided through the PLATO software.
