Karen Korematsu is the daughter of Fred T. Korematsu, a prominent civil rights advocate, public speaker and educator. Until his death in 2005, Fred fought for the civil liberties of all communities. Having refused an incarceration order in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor, he appealed his case to the Supreme Court. Although losing in a 6-3 decision, Korematsu received a Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1998.
