veterinary technician works with beagleThe Veterinary Technology program at Sinclair can help train you to assist in treating animals in a variety of settings. Learn new skills for animal care or prepare for veterinary technology licensure or further animal medicine.

This program might be for you if:

  • You want to learn new skills in animal medicine and animal health management.
  • You are interested in preparing for further veterinary education.
  • You would like to work with people who share your interests in animal care.

Sinclair's Veterinary Technology program will train you in many areas of animal care, including animal husbandry, surgical preparation, drug administration, anatomy, radiography and more. Earn valuable hands-on training while learning to provide veterinary assistance, particularly in areas of surgical preparation and anesthesia. Sinclair's program provides an ideal beginning for those who wish to discover pet therapy and veterinary science, for those who wish to work with and supervise veterinary assistants, and for those who want to continue into a registered veterinary tech (RVT) position or a pre-veterinary education track.*

*: An Ohio RVT must complete an accredited program and pass a National Licensing exam with a score of 75% in order to be registered with the state of Ohio. As a new program, Sinclair's Veterinary Technology program is not yet accredited. Sinclair has applied for accreditation; however, application for accreditation is not a guarantee that accreditation will be granted.

Degree Programs

Associate of Applied Science - Veterinary Technology

The Associate of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology is designed to train Veterinary Technologists to assist Veterinarians in industry, medical centers and animal hospitals. Careers such as these require trained professionals who have knowledge and skills in all aspects of veterinary medicine. This program provides training in animal husbandry and restraint, nursing, surgical preparation and techniques, drug administration, anesthesia, anatomy, laboratory techniques and radiography. Preceptorships at various private practices and research institutions provide valuable on-the-job training.

Sinclair works directly with many four-year schools in Ohio and beyond to ensure the college credit you earn will transfer easily to those schools. By developing articulation agreements, formal agreements between colleges detailing the recognition of college credit between the schools, you will know you are meeting the requirements needed at the four-year school of your choice. Sinclair Community College has worked to develop program-specific agreements to assist you in a more seamless process when transferring from a specific Sinclair degree program to a bachelor’s degree program in the same area of study.

Ohio Transfer Module

The Associate of Arts and the Associate of Science degree programs fulfill the requirements for the Ohio Transfer Module at other public colleges and universities. Students in applied associate degree programs may complete some individual transfer module courses within their degree program or continue beyond their program to complete the entire transfer module.

Upon completion of the Ohio Transfer Module, students will be able to enter most Ohio four-year colleges and universities as a junior with your general education requirements completed. Find out more about the Ohio Transfer Module…
