Borrowing Policies

Sinclair Students/Faculty/Staff

Students, faculty, and staff will need to present a Tartan Card or valid state photo ID or driver’s license to borrow materials from the Sinclair Library. Students can obtain a Tartan Card from the Registrar's Office (10-231).

Alumni

Our policy on library privileges for alumni recently changed. We no longer give graduating students borrowing privileges for a year. Also, we no longer offer lifetime borrowing privileges through the Alumni Association. Alumni who paid for Lifetime membership are grandfathered in, but no new alumni will be added.

However, as an Ohio resident, you have some options that will give you nearly the same access to library resources that you had as a student.

For borrowing books and other library items, you can get a Greene County Public Library card. This will give you borrowing privileges to Greene County as well as SearchOhio, a consortium of public libraries, and OhioLINK, the statewide consortium of academic libraries. If you can’t find what you need at Greene County, you can search for it in the SearchOhio and OhioLINK catalogs and request items to be held for you at any GCPL branch. You can sign up for a GCPL card here: https://library.gcpl.lib.oh.us/selfreg

Once you  have your GCPL card, bring it with you to Sinclair and we will check out our materials to you as a visitor.

For article databases, you have access to the Ohio Web Library which offers some of the same resources that Sinclair has, including Academic Search Premier. To use the databases, you’ll need to enter your zip code. The Ohio Web Library is at http://ohioweblibrary.org  Dayton Metro, Greene County, and other public libraries subscribe to additional databases, so you might want to check what your public library has.

You are also welcome to come to the Sinclair Library and use a guest computer. This would give you access to all the library’s subscription databases.

OhioLINK

Students, faculty, and staff from OhioLINK institutions must have a valid college ID and a photo ID in order to borrow materials from the Sinclair Library.

General Public

Any person may use the books, magazines, and reference services available in the Sinclair Library.  Non-students who need to borrow Sinclair materials should contact their local public library for borrowing policies.

 Renewing Library Materials

Items listed as renewable must be renewed on or before their due date and can be renewed in person at the Library Service Desk or by using the My Library Account option on the Library’s website. Patrons should always review the renewal status in My Library Account.

Sinclair Library and OhioLINK materials cannot be renewed if the item is overdue or if the item has been requested by another patron.  Reminder notices are sent to your Sinclair email account as a reminder to patrons to renew items before they are due.

Account information including renewals, materials checked out, requested materials and fines owed are available through your My Library Account.

Overdue Materials
  • All library borrowing privileges will be suspended immediately if the patron has overdue materials.

  • Fines for materials borrowed through OhioLINK are $0.50 per day per item for up to 30 days.  Items not returned after 30 days will be billed $125 per item. Once materials are returned, this will be reduced to a $50 per item fine.
  • Once a patron has been billed for materials not returned, the Library will put a hold on the patron’s record. This will prevent the patron from registering for new courses, applying for graduation, and obtaining transcripts.
  •  No fines are charged on Sinclair materials once the materials are returned.
  • If you fail to return, lose or damage Sinclair Library materials, you must pay the full replacement or repair cost for the item, plus a five-dollar service charge.  Example: if the replacement cost for an item is thirty dollars, you will be charged thirty-five dollars.  You must obtain a statement at the Sinclair Library Service Desk and pay the appropriate charges in the Bursar's Office (Bldg. 10, Rm. 224, 937- 512-2864).

For more information, contact the Library Service Desk at the Sinclair Library: (937-512-3007) OR by email at: circulation@sinclair.edu

Courtesy Reminder Notices

Sinclair students, faculty, and staff will receive courtesy email reminder notices indicating the due date 3 days before the item is due.   All email notices will be sent to Sinclair email addresses ONLY.
