Sinclair College and Miami Valley Tech Prep Consortium Announce Major Career Technical Education Event

Over 250 teams comprised of over 950 Career Technical High School students from 70 area schools will display their innovative talent at the Showcase

Sinclair College and Miami Valley Tech Prep Consortium are pleased to announce a major “Career Technical” education event—the Sinclair Tech Prep Showcase! This exciting event is scheduled for Thursday, April 18, 2019. Career Technical high school students competing at the Miami Valley Tech Prep Consortium’s annual Showcase event highlight the very best in Career Technical Education.

Over 250 teams comprised of over 950 Career Technical High School students from 70 area schools will display their innovative talent at the Showcase, highlighting the achievements of students who have worked hard to earn a place to represent their school. Project categories include the following programs of study: Allied Health and Nursing, Automotive and Air Transportation/Aviation Maintenance,  Business and Administrative Services, Construction, Cosmetology, Culinary, Engineering, Engineering and Design, Education, Exercise Science, Game Development, Graphic Arts, Health Science, Hospitality, Information Technology, Interactive Media/Web Development,  Internet Safety & Security, Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC), Manufacturing, Marketing,  Media Arts, Medical Bioscience, Network Systems , Programming & Software Development, Project Lead The Way (PLTW),  Public Safety, Structural Systems, Theater, and Visual Design and Imaging. Over 140 professional men and women from higher education and local area businesses will be on campus to evaluate each team, and speak with participating students about the planning and execution of their capstone projects.

The Sinclair Tech Prep Showcase is scheduled for Thursday, April 18, 2019 in Building 12 at Sinclair College, Dayton, Ohio. The competition will commence promptly at 9:00AM, and will conclude with an awards ceremony after the luncheon from noon to 1:00PM. Media is encouraged to arrive at 9:30AM as the competition will still be highly active at that point. The Tech Prep Showcase champions will receive a team trophy and individual team member medals. Runners-up will receive a team trophy. Additional trophies will be awarded to the competition’s overall highest scoring team and the “People’s Choice” for best of show.

Miami Valley Tech Prep Consortium is an expanded high school linkages program and partnership with 62 regional high schools and 8 career technology centers. This national award-winning program provides increased postsecondary persistence and completion, lowers out-of-pocket higher education costs for students, helps diversify the first-year student population, and fosters more career focus for over 11,000 MVTPC students who may be transitioning from secondary to postsecondary education at Sinclair. The accessibility and sustainability of these students leads to community alignment for career and workforce development for our stakeholders.
