Sinclair's Schroeder and McNeil Named to 1st Team NJCAA All-American

On April 8, 2019, the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced that both Amanda Schroeder (Women’s Basketball) and Sean McNeil (Men’s Basketball) have earned Division II 1st Team All-American honors for the 2018-19 season.

Amanda Schroeder (6-00/SO – Carroll H.S.) blasted her way into the record books her sophomore year by being named 1st Team All-American for the second time. The two time OCCAC Player of the Year also lead the nation in scoring at 26.4 points per game and set a new NJCAA All-Time scoring record with 1,703 career points and 26.2 career average.

Amanda was the key component to the Pride winning back-to-back OCCAC regular season championships and a berth in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament (Sweet 16) this year.  Finishing off an outstanding career, she was named to the NJCAA All-Tournament Team as Sinclair placed 6th.

Over her storied career, Amanda holds the following Sinclair single game records, 47 points and 9 made three pointers in a single game, 9-11 (81.8%) three pointers single game and 19 defensive rebounds single game.

Her single season records, 26.35 average, 896 points scored, 315 made field goals, 180 made free throws, 252 defensive rebounds and scoring more than 30 points 11 times.

Amanda now owns most of the Sinclair women’s basketball career records that includes scoring 1,703 points, 26.2 average, 601 made field goals, 341 made free throws, 86.8% free throw percentage, 96 block shots and 21 games with 30 or more points.

In making the most of his only season at Sinclair and pacing the Pride, Sean McNeil (6-04/FR – Cooper H.S. – Union, KY) earned 1st Team All-American honors. Like Amanda, Sean led the nation in scoring averaging 29.7 points per contest as well as leading the nation with 4.3 three pointers made per game.

The OCCAC Player and Freshman of the Year dominated most of the offensive categories making 6.4 free throws per game (2nd in the nation), 9.8 field goals per game (3rd in the nation) and finishing with an 87.6% free throw percentage (6th in the nation).

His 55-point performance against Bryant & Stratton (11/17/18) set a Sinclair single game scoring record.  During the season, Sean scored 40 or more points six times eclipsing the old mark of 3 by Chris Hollan (1986-88).  Other Sinclair records held by McNeil, 921 points in a single season, 132 three pointers made in a season and 29.71 points per game both a single season and career record.

In a rare stat that you do not see that often, both Amanda & Sean lead the nation in scoring for both women and men’s basketball.  Even more interesting in the OCCAC, Amanda & Sean are the first pair of dual 1st Team NJCAA All-Americans from the same institution in the same year since Amy Amstutz & Jon Powell (Owens) 1998-99.

Amanda is only the third women’s basketball player at Sinclair to earn All-American status and the only one to be named 1st Team.

The men’s program now boasts 8 NJCAA All-American selections and the 5th during the Coach Price era. Since 2003-04, Sinclair and Lakeland are tied with 5 All-American selections each for the two longest active OCCAC coaches (Coach Bowe-Lakeland).
