Pitching Powers Pride to Split at Ashland

Game 1

TJ Teets made his first career start for the Pride on Tuesday at Ashland. The freshman had control issues early on that led to a high pitch count but only allowed two hits before exiting the game in the fourth inning. Matt Kruzel came in and continued the dominance over Eagle hitters by only allowing one hit the rest of the game and completing the shutout. Offensively, the Pride found a way to get the lead-off man on base in every inning but one, but were only able to manage two runs across the plate. Five different players recorded a sacrifice bunt during the game.

Final Score: Sinclair 2, Ashland JV 0
WP: Matt Kruzel 3.1 1H 0R 7 K's
Offensive Leaders: Matt Sullivan 2-3 2B, Jon lowe 1-1 2 BBs

Game 2

Another first occurred in game two when sophomore arm Colby Clark made his first start of his career. Clark, a reliever during his time at Sinclair, made the most of his opportunities on this day. After completing four innings and only allowing two runs, Clark hit the first batter of the inning and was lifted for reliever Carlos Merlano. Merlano couldn't hold as Ashland scored two in the fifth and four in the sixth for the comeback win.

Final Score: Ashland 8, Sinclair 6
LP: Carlos Merlano (0-2) 2H 5ER
Offensive Leaders: Taylor Neal 2-3 RBI, Mike Maddle 2-2 HR 4 RBIs

Pride Back in the Polls!

Sinclair is back in the polls for the first time this season, coming in at number 27. The Pride are currently 17-9 and 3-1 on the OCCAC. A sweep at Potomac State, a win over #8 Lackawanna, and winning the first conference series against Owens are a few of the highlights so far. Sinclair will host Cuyahoga this weekend in another conference battle.

Sinclair Baseball's Academic Achievements

As Sinclair says goodbye to quarters this year, Coach Dintaman made his message clear. "With this being the last winter quarter ever, I told my guys that they have to own it," said Dintaman. "I think it's always been tougher on our players with quarters and the fact that most teams don't have classes during their postseason runs, and we always have. We've also lost players after the winter quarter, and now we'll never have to worry about that again." Unofficially, the Pride finished the quarter with a 3.12 GPA (Still awaiting a few changes before it's official, but it's very close.) Fifteen players finished above a 3.0, seven players made the dean's list and two finished with a perfect 4.0. Congratulations to the players on their academic achievements. Roll Pride!
