Two Sinclair Faculty to Receive Emeritus Honors

Dayton, OH- Two retired Sinclair Community College faculty members, Professors Gary Mitchner (Oakwood) and Denise Moore (Bellbrook), will be awarded Professor Emeritus status at the college's commencement in June.

The emeritus awards program was initiated in 1984 for the purpose of recognizing and honoring retired faculty members with lengthy and distinguished records of service to Sinclair.

Professor Mitchner worked for Sinclair for 34 years, serving as chair of the English department for his last seven years. He was recognized for his dedicated teaching in 2006 when he received a National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) award for excellence in teaching.

He also founded Sinclair's Paul Laurence Dunbar Memorial Prize, the Helen Peterson Literary Prize, and directed the annual Writers' Workshop for many years.

Professor Moore worked for Sinclair's Radiologic Technology department for 35 years and served as chair of the department for many years. Under her leadership, she established the Radiologic Technology program in a distance learning initiative with Hocking College, which allowed Hocking College students to take distance learning courses through Sinclair to complete their degree.

She spent the last years of her career at Sinclair developing the Online Vertical Continuing Education Market for healthcare professionals.
