Competition pairs with Antioch Writers' Workshop

DAYTON, OH– Sinclair Community College is co-sponsoring a Creative Writing Contest. This competition hopefully will inspire writers to gain experience and recognition and to test their skills. This contest is open to Southwestern Ohio writers who have received no payment for published manuscripts in the category they are entering (payment includes free copies of journals in which their work has appeared). Sinclair faculty, staff and spouses are ineligible for this contest.

The competition is split into categories: Adult Fiction, Adult Non-Fiction, Adult Poetry, and High School (any type). All entries should be typed on 8 ½"x 11" piece of paper, including full name and address, in the upper left hand corner with manuscripts title. Authors should place last name and title on top of each subsequent page. The length of each story must not exceed 5,000 words while poems should not exceed 100 lines. Fee for entry is $5 for adults and $4 per high school entry (make check payable to Sinclair Community College).

Cash prizes will be awarded as follows: $60 for first place in each category, $30 for second, $20 for third. All 1st place winners will also receive tuition wavier to the Antioch Writers' Workshop on July 7-13th, 2012. John Grogan, author of Marley and Me, will be the keynote speaker at the workshop. Contest winners will be presented awards during a May ceremony at Sinclair Community College.
