Softball to Return to Sinclair

Sinclair Community College announces that Women's Softball will return to the college as an intercollegiate sport for the 2012-2013 academic year.

According to Athletic Director Jack Giambrone, "This is a landmark event for Sinclair to add a sport that serves female athletes and students in southwest Ohio. It has been many years since Sinclair has added a sport, and softball fits in perfectly with the athletic department's mission to foster student-athlete growth and development in the three C's: Classroom, Community and Competition. Softball at Sinclair will fill a large collegiate void by providing athletic scholarships to athletes who choose to pursue their educational and athletic goals here at Sinclair prior to transferring to a four-year institution."

Softball was played at Sinclair from 1977 to 1991. For the first 13 of those seasons, the Head Coach was Norma Dycus, who later served as Director of Athletics. Now retired, Dycus has agreed to help re-launch softball at Sinclair. "I am truly excited to be part of the return of softball at Sinclair. The Dayton area and surrounding southwest Ohio communities in general need an avenue for their high school graduates to continue their softball athletic careers as they transition to college. We will be one of the few community colleges in all of Ohio to offer athletic scholarships for softball. This is a tremendous opportunity for area students, as well as an excellent recruiting and enrollment tool for Sinclair."

Sinclair is a member of the Ohio Community College Athletics Association (OCCAC) and the National Junior College Athletic Association. Softball is a sponsored conference sport of the OCCAC and would begin conference competition in the spring of 2013.

Sinclair is seeking a Head Coach for this new program, and the position is posted on the Sinclair website at https://jobs.sinclair.edu/.
