DAYTON, Ohio (08/11/08) – Sinclair Community College Senior Vice President and Provost Helen Grove and Ohio University Executive Vice President and Provost Kathy Krendl signed an agreement today outlining terms under which the institutions will work together.
“Both Sinclair and Ohio University desire to explore reciprocal options focused on expanding learning opportunities for students,” said Dr. Grove. “Sinclair has enacted several of these types of agreements over the years to expand our students’ options for continuing their education at many of the best schools in Ohio.”
With the state's shift away from a manufacturing economy, greater access to higher education is imperative if Ohio is to compete successfully in the global economy. Ohio Board of Regent Chancellor Eric Fingerhut has challenged Ohio’s colleges and university to find new ways of working together to meet the measures set forth in the state’s strategic plan for higher education.
The Sinclair and Ohio University agreement will do just that. Beginning this fall, the institutions are collaborating to offer individuals who have earned an associate degree in a technical field from Sinclair an opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University without leaving the Dayton area. Two degree programs will be offered this fall, allowing students to take classes from Sinclair and online from Ohio University to meet degree requirements.
In addition to convenience, these programs provide affordable options for students who may not desire or be able to relocate with an average savings of about 40 percent on the cost of tuition.
“The partnership between Sinclair and Ohio University illustrates the degree to which higher education aims to serve Ohio citizens,” noted Dr. Krendl. “We are pleased to be able to offer students the academic excellence that is a hallmark of Ohio University bachelor degree programs.”
