Accelerate IT Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When can I start my Accelerate IT courses?
A: After you finish your admissions requirements, you may register for your Accelerate IT courses and start immediately! Courses begin every Monday for the first 12 weeks of the semester.
Q: When will the other Accelerate IT programs be available?
A: The Network Engineering (Cisco CCNA) classes and the Network + class are available NOW! The Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate certificate courses will be available in spring 2014, and the Fast Track Programming Certificate courses will be available in winter 2015. Also, coming soon are various general education courses. Keep an eye on the Sinclair Course Schedule for available Accelerate IT courses.
Q: Do I need any special software or books for these courses?
A: Accelerate IT courses require the same books as traditional CIS courses. You will, however, need access to a computer with a reliable internet connection. Any software you need to complete the Accelerate IT courses is available within the content of each course.
Q: Can I take Accelerate IT courses and traditional online or in-person courses at the same time?
A: Yes! You can blend your schedule and take as many or as few accelerated courses as you like. Remember, though: you have to complete the Accelerate IT admissions requirements even if you only plan to take one Accelerate IT course.
Q: Can I take an individual Accelerate IT course, or do I have to pick an entire program?
A: Yes, you can take an individual Accelerate IT course to see how you like it, as an elective or as part of your current program. You do not need to sign up for an entire Accelerate IT certificate or degree to take an Accelerate IT course. You will, however, still need to meet/complete the admissions requirements for Accelerate IT, even if you only plan to take one Accelerate IT course.
Q: What happens if I can't maintain an 80% in my Accelerate IT course?
A: If you fall below an 80% in your course, you may still complete the course. You will be awarded the grade you have earned, but you will not be able to take any more Accelerate IT courses. For example, if you are only earning a 65% in your Accelerate IT course, you will pass the course with that 65%, but you will be transitioned out of Accelerate IT and back into traditional courses.
Q: How much do Accelerate IT courses cost?
A: Accelerate IT courses have the same tuition rate as regular SinclairOnline courses. Please refer to the current fee schedule page for current tuition and fee rates.
Q: What kind of funding is available for these courses?
A: Accelerate IT courses have the same funding options as other Sinclair programs and courses. Accelerate IT courses can be paid for using financial aid, military education benefits, scholarships, employer-funded tuition assistance/reimbursement, and TAA or WIA funding.
Q: Can I do all my courses online?
A: Yes, you can do all of your Accelerate IT courses online. But if you are registered for a combination of traditional in-person and Accelerate IT courses, you will still need to come to a Sinclair campus to attend your in-person courses.
Q: What kind of assignments can I expect in an Accelerate IT course?
A: Accelerate IT CIS courses consist of online labs, quizzes, a midterm and a final. Each of the labs and exams allows three attempts at each. Remember, you need an 80% by the third attempt! The quizzes have unlimited attempts and are built in for self-checks. For a detailed list of assignments for an individual course, you may ask your Admissions Counselor for an Assignment Checklist.
