This online resource will help you become more familiar with online learning and what to expect when taking courses online. It will also guide you through the enrollment process for becoming an online student at Sinclair.

How to Begin at Sinclair
Getting started as an online student is just like getting started as any other student—degree-seeking or non-degree seeking—at Sinclair Community College. Take a look at the college’s How to Begin Steps: apply for admission; apply for financial aid; complete placement testing or submit transcripts; "attend" new student orientation; meet with an academic advisor; develop a class schedule; register for classes, get a Tartan card; and pay for your classes. The only differences from these steps for online students is for those non-local learners, or students that live beyond a 60-mile radius of the Dayton campus.
Modifications for Non-Local Learners
Confirm that Sinclair offers online courses in the state where you live.
Placement Testing for non-local learners is available at one of the Sinclair locations providing placement testing services, including the Courseview Campus Center or the Englewood, Huber Heights, or Preble County Learning Centers, or by obtaining a proctor to administer the placement test locally. To use a proctor for the placement test, each student must complete the proctor agreement form and upon acceptance, he/she will be notified of eligibliity to take the test. At this point, the student will be able to set up your appointment for testing with the approved proctor. Learn more about finding a proctor.
Tartan Card (Student ID)
The Tartan card, or college student identification card, can be obtained via postal mail if you are unable to come to a campus location. Non-local learners can receive their Tartan card with the SinclairOnline logo, instead of their own pictures, upon request. For more information about the card, please visit the Tartan Card website.
Developing Online Class Schedule & Registering for Online Courses
Your first step is to complete the free course, How to Succeed in an Online Course (HTS). Registration information may be found at the How to Succeed in an Online Course information page. This course must be completed before you may register for any SinclairOnline course. It is free and only takes 1-3 hours to complete.
Then you can browse available online classes each term using the college’s Online Course Schedule at the Sinclair course schedule page. To view only the online courses, simply select "Online Only" in the section format and click search. You can also add additional search variables to find particular courses each term.
Once you’ve chosen your classes, you can register online using the Web Advisor system, accessed through the my.sinclair student portal at http://my.sinclair.edu.
When registering for your classes, make sure to review the Academic Calendar for important dates, including registration periods and payment deadlines. Please Note: To register for online courses, you must maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average.
