Testing Information

SinclairOnline works to provide you with a fully online experience; however, some in-person testing may be required. Your options for taking tests will vary according to where you live in relation to Sinclair's Dayton campus.

Within 60 Miles

If you live within 60 miles of Sinclair's Dayton campus, you must take your placement test and course proctored tests at one of Sinclair's Testing Centers. See the list at the bottom of this page for courses requiring proctored testing. Proficiency exams will be taken through Prior Learning Assessment.

Beyond 60 Miles

If you live more than 60 miles from Sinclair's Dayton campus, you may use one of the above resources, or a local proctor. Information on specific testing is below:

Placement Testing

Sinclair uses a test called ACCUPLACER for placement testing. The test has three parts: reading, writing and math. Students are required to take all three parts before enrolling in classes. Students who already have English and/or math on their transcript from another college or university should contact a SinclairOnline coach before taking the placement test. Visit the Proctored Placement Test page for more information.

Proficiency Testing

Sinclair faculty have developed proficiency tests for many Sinclair courses. A proficiency test measures a student’s knowledge of the subject area of the course. A student who passes a proficiency test will earn credit for a specific Sinclair course without enrolling in the course. There is a non-refundable fee for testing which is paid before the test is given. Visit the Proctored Proficiency Test page for more information.

SinclairOnline Courses That Require Proctored Testing

Most SinclairOnline courses offer online testing. However, if you enroll in a course that requires proctored testing, then supervised paper-and-pencil or computerized testing is required. It is important that you determine the type of testing used in a SinclairOnline course(s) prior to enrolling in it. Check the list below to see if your course(s) require proctored testing. If you live more than 60 miles from campus, and your course(s) require proctored testing and you want a local proctor, follow the procedures on the Proctor Information and Procedures page.
