Nick called the meeting to order at 2:30 in rm. 7-L21

 

 

  1. Approval of the Minutes

Faculty Senate Minutes for April 9, 2008 were approved.

 

  1. Nick introduced Dr. Julie Schmid from AAUP’s national office, Rudy Fichtenbaum from Wright State University, and Ms. Jaimie Pottorf from Ohio’s AAUP office.  Nick gave a brief summary of why the representatives had been invited.  Dr. Schmid began the discussion by providing an overview of the steps involved in an organizing drive.  Rudy Fichtenbaum discussed several circumstances the WSU faculty experienced prior to and after the faculty unionized. Senators posed questions to the representatives and requested clarification on certain points.

 

  1. President’s Report

Nick reviewed the dates and times of the May Board committee meetings.  Several senators tentatively agreed to attend:  Derek Allen to attend the Finance Committee scheduled for Monday, May 5th; Moez  Ben-azzouz to attend the Strategic Linkages Committee scheduled for Tuesday, May 6th; Nick Reeder and Susan Callender to attend the Full Board meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 13th.

 

Bill Boyko, Chairperson of the Elections Committee noted that thus far there were no candidates for the offices of President and Vice-President of Faculty Senate.

 

 

     In the absence of Luis Gonzalez, Derek Allen discussed a preliminary draft 

     for the fall quarter faculty information sessions on college governance models.

     Senators agreed that progress on this initiative should be announced at the spring

     Faculty Assembly.

 

 

The meeting adjourned at 4:16.

 

Spring Faculty Assembly will be April 30, 2008 from 3:00 to 4:30 in rm. 4011.

 

The next senate meeting will be Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 2:30 in rm. 7L21.
