Nick called the meeting to order at 2:30 in rm. 7342
1.† Approval of Minutes
†††† Minutes for the Faculty Senate meeting of November 7, 2007 and the Minutes for the
†††† Faculty Senate call meeting of November 14, 2007 were approved with corrections.
2.† Presidentís Report
†††† Nick opened the meeting by welcoming members of the Faculty Handbook Revision
†††† Committee.† Tim Ryan (LCS) withdrew from the committee; senators were in††††† †††††††††††††††
†††† agreement on Ken Kohlenberg (LCS) as his replacement.† Nick thanked the members††† ††
†††† of the committee for their participation and offered assistance from the senate if it
†††† is needed.† Mike Brigner noted that the timeline for the Faculty Handbook revision
†††† is somewhat flexible since the members of the committee are in agreement that the
†††† quality of the revision is more important than attempting to finish it in 90 days.
†††† Nick noted that Dr. Grove solicited input from senate officials; she appointed†††††††††
†††† Kathleen Cleary and Walt Davis† to the Faculty Handbook Revision
††† Nick said that he and Luis Gonzalez met with attorney Julie Ford.† Senate was not
††† charged for this initial visit.† Attorney Ford suggested that it would be more beneficial
††† to the process if legal assistance was used toward the end of the revision process.† She
††† also suggested that the senate and the Faculty Handbook Revision Committee review
††† AAUP documents.
† ††To determine problematic areas in the Faculty Handbook, senate suggested that the†
††† committee speak with the Academic Policies committee, the Grievance committee
††† and to identify those areas in the handbook that have prompted law suits by faculty
††† against the college.†
Dr. Grove shared an informative overview of the progress being made on the levy campaign.† She distributed packets of information that included: a Citizens for Sinclair card, a Facts Sheet, the organizational chart of the campaign, levy campaign major events and a list of the building Captains.†
Gary Honnert asked to speak to
senate and explain his new responsibilities, one of which may be the monitoring
of the zzz mailing lists.† The senators
The following faculty †were selected as members of the new Sabbatical Committee:
Barb Tollinger- BPS, Kent Zimmerman-LCS, Joseph Giardullo-LHS, Marc Smith- SME.
Nick highly encouraged senators to attend the Board Retreat; this is the first time faculty members have been invited.† David Bodary will be the spokesperson for the faculty component of the Board Retreat agenda.† *Motion- That senate endorses David Bodary to represent the faculty at the Board Retreat January 26, 2008.† The Motion passed.
3.† New Business†††††††††
†††† †††Shari Rethman asked senators to encourage their constituents to visit the university††
†††† Cindy Schoonover volunteered to draft a formal proposal on the number of senators
†††† to be elected from each of the divisions.†
†††† Bill Boyko recommended that Robert Woodruff be invited to speak at the winter
†††† Faculty Assembly scheduled for Wednesday, February 6, 2008.
