What is the program about?

As a pharmacy technician, a student will work directly under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, helping to prepare prescribed medications for distribution to patients. The Advanced Pharmacy Technician certificate offers a combination of classroom and practical training that will help the student succeed in their future career. A portion of this program will involve 105 hours of non-paid directed practice at participating pharmacies. A State and Federal Background check will be required prior to starting the directed practice.

Program Outcomes

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the scope of pharmacy practice including handling of sterile products, inventory control, and repackaging.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the scope of pharmacy practice, including sterile compounding, non-sterile compounding, beginning pharmacology and pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the scope of pharmacy practice including hands-on practical experience at a pharmacy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the scope of pharmacy practice including legal aspects of drug dispensing and specific role of the pharmacy technicians.

Career Opportunities

Pharmacy Technician in retail and mail order settings, hospital pharmacies, nursing homes and home health care sites.

The State of Ohio requires pharmacy technicians to be registered effective April 6, 2018. The Sinclair Community College Pharmacy Technician Program currently meets the training program requirements in this state.
