Music MUS.S.AA

Associate of Arts - 65 Credit Hours

Division: Liberal Arts, Communication and Social Sciences
Department: Music

What is "Music"?

The Associate of Arts in Music is designed for students who will be transferring to a four-year institution for further studies upon graduation in music education, music performance, or any baccalaureate program in music. The A.A. curriculum fulfills the requirements of the first two years of a bachelor of music, with special emphasis on public performance. An audition is required upon entering the program and a solo recital is required before graduation. As part of this degree program, students must complete the requirements of the Ohio Transfer Module in order to graduate.

Program Outcomes

  • Identify and describe aural, analytical and compositional techniques used by composers from 900 AD to present time; demonstrate computer literacy with interactive music theory and aural skills software.
  • Perform standard collegiate-level solo and ensemble repertoire
  • Articulate the historical style characteristics of Western European music as they changed from medieval to modern times.
  • Sight-read (on piano), harmonize, transpose, perform in ensembles, improvise and demonstrate piano technique equivalent to established sophomore levels.

Transferability

Completion of this program guarantees completion of the Ohio Transfer Module (OTM). OTM courses are guaranteed to transfer to any public institution in Ohio on a course-by-course basis or in total.

Formal articulation agreements with other colleges and universities indicate how Sinclair programs and courses will transfer to other institutions.
